The role

ORX is hiring a research manager to work in our busy research and information team and lead the delivery of quantitative research projects. The individual will work with ORX members to deliver key components of the ORX research programme and will have the opportunity to influence and drive change at an industry level. The role offers an opportunity to gain exposure to the financial services industry.

The ORX research programme delivers insightful projects to the financial services industry. These range from benchmarking financial measures, investigating and determining best practice through to original thought leadership research. The research manager will lead ORX projects as well as contribute to the strategic direction of other products and initiatives.

The research manager will lead projects which primarily involve quantitative and qualitative benchmarks. This demands an individual who excels at deriving insights from quantitative information and can shape an evidence-based research report to an exceptional standard.

The ideal candidate must be an effective manager, a skilled facilitator, a good communicator as well as comfortable working with data and providing recommendations and instruction to analysts. The role suits an individual with a background in financial services, risk management or research with a strong quantitative element although other backgrounds will be considered.

The team

This role is within ORX’s Research and Information team. This team conducts evidence-based research by collecting data from our members typically through industry surveys. We publish thought leadership papers and deliver benchmarking studies to ORX members.

Main duties and responsibilities

Key responsibilities for the Research Manager include:

  • To lead research projects involving the following:
    • writing research proposals.
    • leading project steering groups involving ORX members.
    • developing surveys and other ways of collecting information.
    • analysing survey results and other information collected from members.
    • communicating research findings to ORX members through report writing and hosting webinars and roundtables.
  • Presenting research findings and facilitating discussions at ORX member events.
  • Where required, to be involved in ORX member relationship management duties.
  • To work in and be able to manage small teams to deliver projects.
  • To effectively manage relationships with the ORX leadership team.

Skills and knowledge

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent, preferably in a numerate subject such as mathematics or economics, and relevant work experience including experience of data analysis and/or reporting.
  • An analytical mindset and a track record of intellectual curiosity with an interest in economics and finance.
  • Proven success in the delivery of projects.
  • Excellent IT skills, in particular Microsoft Excel and other Office applications as well as web-based communication.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English including a strong report writer who can articulate research concepts and outputs in accessible language for relevant audiences.
  • Ability to present findings through various mediums (webinars, conference calls, roundtables, etc.)
  • Capable of understanding and summarising complex concepts.
  • Handle confidential material with highest discretion.
  • Work autonomously and pro-actively as well as in a team environment.
  • Able to cope under pressure and prioritise tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to offer innovative ideas and solutions and develop new ways to analyse and visualise results.

Desirable

  • Operational risk qualification and knowledge.
  • Experience in designing and delivering surveys.
  • Experience of working in financial services, risk management or research for at least 5 years.
  • Experience of operating in an international environment.
  • Experience in project management.
