The role

ORX is hiring a Research Analyst to work in our busy research and information team. You will support the delivery of quantitative research projects and data delivery. This will include being involved in data analysis, survey design as well as building tools using Excel, SQL and R to analyse and visualise data and helping us to communicate our research findings in coherent and engaging ways.

The ideal candidate will be a good communicator (both verbal and written) with an analytical approach who enjoys working with data and learning mathematical programming languages.

The team

This role is within the Risk Measurement division of ORX’s Research and Information team. This team conducts evidence-based research by collecting data from our members and through industry surveys. We publish thought leadership papers and deliver benchmarking studies to ORX members.

Main duties and responsibilities

The Research Analyst provides analytical support to the Research and Information team in a variety of ways: 

  • Helping to perform quantitative analysis of data requiring some statistical skills and programming ability
  • Supporting the design and development of surveys using a customised survey tool 
  • Conducting analysis of survey data in particular producing charts and other data visualisations to share findings
  • Supporting the writing and delivery of quantitative research projects
  • Supporting ORX to derive value from its data assets through the development of new ideas for quantitative benchmarking and performing ad hoc analysis requests when required

Skills and knowledge


  • Undergraduate degree in a numerate discipline such as mathematics, computer science or economics
  • Confident in the manipulation of quantitative information using a tool such as R, Excel, SQL
  • An excellent communicator (both verbal and written)
  • Track record of intellectual curiosity and interest in economics and finance
  • Good IT skills, in particular Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Organised, proactive, and able to undertake research including working to deadlines


  • 1+ years’ experience in the use of statistical packages such as R, Python, Excel for data analysis and familiarity with database structures in SQL.
  • Experience of statistical methodology such as distribution fitting and simulation
  • Experience in the assessment of survey data
  • Knowledge of banking and financial services, as well as operational risk
  • Experience using survey tools
