The role

ORX data services are a crucial part of what we do as a business and we have an ever-expanding global community of members interested in, and actively using, our data outputs. Having access to good quality data provides the context our members need to understand the risk landscape and benchmark their operational risk activities.

The Quality Assurance and Analysis Manager role will assist in the smooth operation of our data services, driving up and evidencing the quality of the data assets. This is a varied and challenging role managing a small team to ensure the integrity of ORX data and the framework and processes required to deliver that data. You will ensure that quality assurance (QA) processes are defined and deployed across all major data exchange services at ORX, defining best practice and finding production efficiencies across all our data services (Loss Events, Cyber Events and Scenarios).

You will ensure that the QA requirements are clearly and correctly communicated to members for effective operation by ORX and will support the Managers accountable for those services in implementing QA working practices and successfully delivering to our data services calendar.

You will be the focal, data facing, point for all QA outputs within a Quality Assurance Framework including processes, procedures, planning, operations, analysis and continuous improvement.

When not managing our production cycles your expertise will help drive our strategic, analytical and governance activities by helping us understand the detail of our data assets and how they could evolve. Your analysis skills will help the business understand priority data improvement areas while your communication skills will help non-technical users understand what actions need to happen and in what order.

You will be a visible champion for high quality data inputs and outputs which will enable the ongoing development of data services to ORX members and subscribers and will grow the capabilities to create a high-functioning data services team.

The Quality Assurance and Analysis Manager will be accountable to the Senior Manager – Data Service Development, within the Risk Information Team.

Main duties and responsibilities

Key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Successful delivery of the operational data services ensuring that a high integrity data resource is delivered to agreed timescales
  • Defining and delivering an operational and strategic improvement plan for data services so they continue to meet the needs of ORX and its membership
  • Building and managing an operational data capability which ensures the quality of the main data services sources gathered, stored and used by OR
  • Ensuring QA outputs are clear and unambiguous with a range of tests that meet the needs of each data service within an agreed Quality Assurance Framework.
  • Building a QA analysis as well as audit capability to help the business understand the areas where action should be taken e.g. periodic review of large losses, loss trends.
  • Subject matter expertise enabling QA good practice to be applied to all ORX data e.g. Data exchanges, News, CRM
  • Championing the need for high quality data and improving data user understanding; building a team of data quality specialists and ensuring stakeholders benefit from effective documentation and training.
  • Working with the Risk Measurement and Business Intelligence teams to define and drive data services analytics outputs and toolkits

Key result areas include:

  • Effective on-going delivery of data services, including the quality assurance framework and reporting outputs
  • Evidence improvements in data quality, for example number of in-cycle QA queries, post publication queries and ad-hoc deep dive projects
  • Effective communication for member data users, educating on the standards for data and the operational processes to support

Skills and knowledge

Essential

  • First degree in a subject with a high level of numeracy and anayltical thinking
  • Demonstratable experience in an operational data quality role, working to a regular schedule of outputs, processes and data standards
  • Experience of translating complex data concepts to structured QA outputs and communicating effectively with a broad range of stakeholders (e.g. member facing colleagues, Analysts, IT Support and Business Intelligence)
  • Experience of developing an operational service to ensure that the competencies and outputs meet the needs of the business and have impact
  • Demonstrable experience in data processing and analysis and able to derive and communicate insights
  • Experience of MS SQL Server (SSIS, SSRS) and experience of working within a complex, secure data environment
  • Good working knowledge of data protection legislation and how it applies across a global membership base
  • Line management of a team of data analysts
  • Self-motivated and highly organised, pro-active and solution driven; able to cope under pressure and prioritise tasks
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Effective critical thinking skills, making connections across complex business processes to ensure the on-going integrity of ORX data and translating complex data concepts into real business applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Reliable and trustworthy; able to handle confidential material with the highest discretion

Desirable

  • Breadth of data experience in risk, compliance, audit or data quality assurance
  • Experience of project delivery and leading the successful implementation of data quality within new product propositions
  • Strategic data experience and awareness of the broader context of peer-to-peer data experience
  • Experience in a financial services role
  • Knowledge of operational / Non-Financial Risk
  • Experience of working in an international environment
  • Experience of using data visualisation tools to improve on data understanding and actions; experience of open source programming tools, ideally R.
